Events in Semans

On July 21, 2012 Semans Main Street came alive with people and vehicles. It kinda felt like “old times” seeing so many people milling about. The attraction was the unveiling of the Semans Historical Mural.

Musical entertainment and Happy Hour started at 3:30pm, followed by a BBQ supper donated by The Brickhouse Cafe and Holmes Herefords. A beautifully decorated cake by Karen’s Kakes was served to all.

At 7:00pm Ray Lamontagne, Mayor of Semans, addressed the crowd. After the introduction, the mural was unveiled to the delight of close to 200 in attendance. Ray then introduced the following speakers who gave a brief history of the images illustrated on the mural; Alan Richardson – railway and trains; Court Linford – hotel and school history; Jannie Stark – history of cenotaph, trees and water tower; Ada Hodgins – impact of agriculture on our community then and now; and Jay Holmes – sports groups and the Semans Wheat Kings.

Claude Finch, a former Semans Wheat King and member of the Decade of Champions team, autored a poem about hockey. The poem is included on the left corner of the mural. Claude masterfully recited his poem to the eagerly listening crowd.

There were eleven members of the Semans Wheat Kings Decade of Champions in attendance. They came forward and had their picture taken as a group in front of the mural, all smiling and so happy to be together once again. Surely there were many plays and games relived that evening.

The evening concluded with visiting and reminising. Later in the evening, a fabulous display of fireworks, orchestrated by Jamie Phillips, was enjoyed at the school grounds.
